So if I buy the MobileMe from Amazon, how do I apply that to an already existing MobileMe account? Won’t it ask me to “sign-up” and create a new MobileMe account?

Nope. What you get in the box is a code. Enter the code in the renewal area of your existing MobileMe account and it will extend your existing subscription.
Currently the “old version” of MobileMe is available at Amazon for $56 or $54 but despite it being “old” the codes still work.
